The short answer

  • You maintain several products and want CI, deployments, revenue and issues per project: MakerNotch.
  • You want pull-request reviews and AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor) in the notch: MacNotch.
  • You want revenue numbers plus everyday tools like clipboard and timers: Notch Buddy.
  • You want music, a file shelf and widgets, nothing developer-specific: Boring Notch (free) or Alcove.

We make MakerNotch, so treat this page accordingly. Details about other apps come from their publishers’ pages, checked on 14 October 2026, not from hands-on testing. Prices change; confirm on each site before buying.

Before choosing: if you need CI, deployments and payments across products, watch that workflow in the demo. For music or files, start with the general utilities in the table.

About NotchNook: we could not verify its official page in this review. This does not establish that the app is discontinued or that it fails on your Mac. Check with its publisher for features, pricing and availability. Our alternative guide compares workflows; it does not diagnose NotchNook errors.

MakerNotch: one panel per project

MakerNotch organises everything around the project you select. Each project has its own connections, so checking a second product does not mean signing in to a second set of dashboards.

  • Code: open pull requests and merge requests, CI and pipeline status.
  • Deployments: Vercel and Cloudflare Pages, production and preview.
  • Business: Stripe and Polar revenue, DataFast visitors, Resend deliverability.
  • Issues and health: Linear issues assigned to you, Sentry errors, Supabase service health.
  • Around the work: notes and links per project, a focus timer and 12 developer utilities.

Collapsed, the notch shows a status dot and a short headline when something changes, such as a failing CI run.

Pull requests and CI for one project, from GitHub or GitLab. Sample data.

Not a fit if you want a file shelf, clipboard history or live AI agent monitoring: MakerNotch does none of these. It can show and control what is playing in Spotify or Apple Music, as an option, but media is not its focus. It reads status; reviews, billing changes and detailed reports stay in each provider.

MacNotch: reviews and AI agents

MacNotch’s own comparison page lists pull-request review for GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket and live monitoring of Claude Code and Cursor sessions, with Allow and Deny when the CLI is waiting. Pick it if most of your day runs through AI coding agents and code review rather than deployments and revenue.

Notch Buddy: revenue and everyday tools

Notch Buddy lists 19 tools (clipboard, notes, timers, weather, system stats) plus revenue integrations with Stripe, Polar, Dodo Payments and Lemon Squeezy, and analytics from DataFast and Google Analytics. It does not advertise CI, deployment or issue integrations. Pick it if revenue is the only business number you watch and you want general utilities in the same place.

General notch apps: NotchNook, Boring Notch and Alcove

These options focus on everyday desktop controls. Boring Notch is free and open source, with media controls, a file shelf, calendar and HUD replacement. Alcove focuses on Dynamic Island-style animations, notifications and Lock Screen widgets. Use one of them if you want the notch to be a better music and file area, and keep your development tools in the browser.

Do you need a notch app at all?

Not always. If you check one project once a day, a bookmark folder is enough. If you only care about deployments, a free menu bar monitor may be all you need; see menu bar apps for Vercel and GitHub Actions.

A notch panel earns its place when you repeat the same status check across several products many times a day. That is the case MakerNotch is built for; see how to organise multiple projects and accounts.

Requirements and demo

MakerNotch needs macOS 14 or later and runs on Apple silicon and Intel. On Macs without a notch, it opens as a panel from the top of the screen. Watch the app tour with sample projects, or read what MakerNotch does in detail.
